Novinda:
Mercury Abatement
When coal is burned to generate power, the leftover ash (fly ash) is used to make cement. In fact, 40% of the world’s cement is made with fly ash.
Conventional mercury abatement techniques ruin the ash, so it can no longer be sold; it in fact generates a disposal cost. Novinda’s system chemically sequesters the mercury in an insoluble form, while preserving the concrete-making value of the fly ash.
